I just got off the phone with a patient and we talked endlessly about the great article in MORE Magazine.  Below is the email I sent to MORE Editors - hopefully they’ll write a response in their next issue, or better yet, another prime article shining a brighter light on this issue and ALL of the options.

Dear MORE Magazine Editors,

It felt truly serendipitous to come across this article in More Magazine’s December 2008/January 2009 Issue while flying to London with my mother - who turned to me and said, “you won’t believe this.” I’ve been working in Patient Support for women with uterine fibroids since May of 2008 and have been consistently frustrated with the lack of press this issue receives, not to mention number of women who succumb to having a hysterectomy when it’s unnecessary. Rosen does a fantastic job bringing nearly all the facts to the table, but she misses a very important one - there is another completely non-invasive treatment option for women with uterine fibroids called Focused Ultrasound. It’s articles like this one that help increase the conversation about this extremely prevalent issue, but it’s also omissions that keep some women in the dark. I hope you’ll draw significant attention to this option, which was surprisingly missing although it was approved by the FDA in 2004 and to date over 4,500 women worldwide have had their fibroid symptoms alleviated by this treatment option.
