I just returned from the ACOG Annual Meeting in San Francisco (American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists). Imagine spending three days in an exhibit hall filled with every product and gadget your gynecologist could ever want or need. I’ll leave it up to your imagination!

Thanks to funding from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Development, part of the National Institutes of Health, researchers at Northwestern University are investigating the use of a class of drugs called selective progesterone receptor modulators as a possible long term treatment option for uterine fibroids. A local television station in Orlando, Florida recently featured this segment on uterine fibroids and uterine fibroid embolization (UFE). The station interviewed a local patient who chose to treat her fibroid with UFE. Her results were very positive. The video also references statistics about uterine fibroids, including higher rates of incidence among African-American women.
